NAAAP-Seattle Officers

Gil Gido
President

Gil Gido is a Principal Consultant at Ulysses' Social Media Marketing Company (USMMC). He is certified with a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification issued by the Project Management Institute. During the last ten years he worked within the Microsoft IT division at the Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Wa developing internal line of business applications. In 2006 he co-founded the Microsoft Asian Professional Society and led the organization until 2009. While MAPS is identified by C-Level management as a key pillar of Microsoft's Global Diversity initiative, it is an organization to help prepare Asians for future leadership roles at Microsoft. He presided over consistent organizational growth, organized and delivered three leadership conferences, raised funding and trained 6000+ employees.

 

Jen Phang
Vice President
of Operations


Born in Malaysia, but raised in Vancouver, Canada, Jennifer has spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest. After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Jennifer moved to Seattle to pursue her architecture career.

She has been involved with NAAAP since 2004 and has served in various roles including Secretary, Membership chair, and now Vice President. During the 2006 NAAAP National Convention, she lead the Event Programming Team and helped to coordinate the speakers and seminars.  Her new role as Vice President for NAAAP Seattle will give her the opportunity to develop her leadership tools, get more involved in the community and meet professionals from various disciplines.

In her life outside of Architecture, she enjoys playing competitive volleyball, traveling, cooking, and is a “wannabe” food critic.
 

Marian Liu
Vice President
of External Affairs


As the arts & entertainment reporter for The Seattle Times, Marian Liu splits her time evenly between the print and online world - writing stories and producing multimedia. She is a media maven, having written for the Los Angeles Times, the Oakland Tribune, the San Jose Mercury News, The San Francisco Examiner and Source Magazine. She has also taught writing at San Francisco State University, and serves on the journalism advisory boards of her alma mater, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Washington. She is currently working on her Executive MBA at University of Washington. In addition to serving as Vice President of External Affairs of NAAAP-Seattle, she works as director of the multimedia project for the Asian American Journalists Association.

Ke (Claire) Ding
Secretary

Claire earned her M.S. degree in Information Management from the University of Washington (UW), Seattle in 2009. She immigrated from China in 2007 and has work experience in Program Management, Business Analysis and Technical Support at organizations such as Microsoft, IKEA and UW Medicine. She loves interacting with people, facilitating events and making friends. During her time at UW, she was actively involved in several non-profit organizations on campus and served on the Board of Foundation of International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS) and Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA). In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, reading inspiring books and blogs, singing karaoke, cooking, and hiking.

 

Vivian Hauer
Treasurer

Vivian is a CPA with Robert Half Financial and has fourteen years experience in accounting and tax, seven years in public accounting, two years in private companies and six years teaching accounting in the university. She specializes in estate and trust, partnership (joint venture) accounting, hospitality and real estate industry. Other professional organizations she is involved in include: Women Expatriates and Foreign Business Owners, Trade Alliance of Greater Seattle, Washington Society of CPA's. In addition she is the organizer for the Seattle Asian Professional Meet up Group. In her leisure time, she likes to garden, hiking, playing Jazz piano and writing short stories.

Kevin Chang
Chair

Kevin is a Supervising Engineer with the King County Department of Transportation.  A native of the Evergreen State, Kevin earned his doctorate in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington.  Kevin is an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and is currently an elected officer for the Washington State Section.   As NAAAP Membership Chair, Kevin is looking forward to cultivating the energy and passion of its current members and to embracing the enthusiasm of its future members
Professional Development

Hang-Ping Chen
Chair

Hang Chen is a structural design engineer on a development program at The Boeing Company. Born in Taiwan and raised in America, he earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Off-hours, Hang guided Boeing employees on career development projects in Boeing's 6-Step Group Mentoring Program. He is a graduate of the Executive Development Institute (EDI) Leadership Program and currently serves as the President of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Boeing Asian American Professional Association (BAAPA).  When not working or volunteering, Hang enjoys life and organizes activities for friends and family.
Student Relations

Amy Duong
Chair
 

Amy was born and raised in Seattle. She is a student at the University of Washington majoring in sociology and graduating in March 2010. Amy works for Prudential helping clients build a strong and sound financial foundation for the future. Her goals in NAAAP includes actively promoting the organization and getting more students involved. She wants to provide other students like herself the opportunity to connect and build strong networks with other professionals. In her free time, Amy enjoys working out at the gym, watching movies, and being with her friends.

 

Community service

David Eam
Chair
 

David is a Software Systems Engineer with Honeywell Aerospace, developing Navigational systems for Boeing and Airbus aircraft. A native and dedicated Seattelite, David has been in the Washington area for most of his life. He is a first generation born Chinese American. David earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. On his spare time, he enjoys a variety of sports and activities, including dodgeball, volleyball, skiing/snowboarding, tennis, hiking, camping, and cycling. He enjoys taking physical challenges, such as riding the annual STP bike ride and hiking up to Camp Muir. Trying new things and keeping an open mind is key.

PR / Marketing

Julie Pham
PR/Marketing Chair

Julie Pham is managing editor of Nguoi Viet Tay Bac-Northwest Vietnamese News and the program director for Saigon Broadcasting Television Network (SBTN) in Seattle, and the New America Media Seattle/Northwest Media coordinator. Julie is a Seattle native and went to University of California, Berkeley for her BA in History. Before working in media, she taught Southeast Asian history at UC Berkeley, managed the Journal of Vietnamese Studies, and earned her MPhil and PhD in History at Cambridge University as a Gates Scholar. She is an advocate for ethnic media, intercultural communication, small businesses, and local arts.

 

Eric Kalinka
Technology Director

Eric Kalinka is a developer for AT&T representing the Small Business Mobility Customer Care National Operations, Executive Response Team, Business Data Support, and Enterprise Customer Care National Operations teams. He graduated with a BA from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Telecommunications. He's a decorated employee having been awarded a 2009 Service of Excellence Award given to only 1% of the AT&T employees and the Key Contributor Award twice. In addition, Eric is versed in various programming languages and methodologies; most notably ColdFusion 8.0, SQL Server 2005, HTML, JavaScript, and Adobe Flex 3.0. Eric has been a NAAAP-Seattle member since 2006 and was a stage announcer for the Cherry Blossom Festival. During leisure times, he enjoys reading and writing poetry, hiking, volleyball, traveling, and cycling.

Casey Huang
Chair

Casey is an architect, Associate Principal at Mithun, an integrated design firm in Seattle. Through her design work as an architect, Casey strives to make a meaningful difference in the community. She was the designer for many outstanding projects including award winning projects - REI flagship store in Seattle, the Marina Building at Shilshole Bay Marina in Ballard and Thea's Landing in Tacoma. Casey was born and raised in Beijing, China. After receiving a Bachelor Degree in Architecture in Beijing, she came to the United States in 1988 to continue her education. She graduated from University of Nebraska with a Master Degree in Architecture in 1990. She is very passionate about education. As the Scholarship Chair, she hopes to play a part in helping the next generation of leaders succeed.

Chair

Stacia is a marketing director for the Gift. The Gift is a way of life making contributions to others in the world. As a profession, Stacia connects and contributes to people using the techniques in her work. As Gala chair, Stacia hopes to contribute and make a difference to people she doesn't even know yet.

Nancy Ko
Board at Large

Nancy is an event planner who is originally from Boston. She served as a former Social Events Chairperson for NAAAP-Boston chapter for three years. Recently, Nancy was the Events Chair for the 2006 NAAAP National Convention in Seattle and produced the fashion show for the Gala with Banana Republic. She is an avid volleyball player year round and a snowboarder.

Roxanne Tam
Board at Large
Roxanne Tam is a Seattle-based attorney whose areas of practice include commercial law, immigration and real estate. She is admitted to the King, Washington and American Bar Associations. Roxanne earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Seattle University. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington. In her free time, Roxanne enjoys spending time with family, friends and her dog, Oliver.
